Listing Description

1978 Jaguar XJS XJ-S Small Block Chevy Conversion / TH-350 Transmission 107,168 miles on car / ~ 7,168 miles on engine - mileage may go up from personal use. I truly enjoy this car and torn on selling but have a strong desire to build-up a Mazda Miata -OR- Nissan 350Z for fun & track use. Driving this XJ-S I constantly get comments; often from folks loving the style and then when they hear the engine the common question is “What do you have in there?” It’s definitely not a ‘purist’ Jaguar; however, the Chevy conversion offers much improved reliability and much cheaper parts replacement cost. Starts and runs strong; biggest issue is power-steering leak as mentioned below. Car: Carpet in Fair/Good Shape New Floor Mats (functional part of carpet) Aftermarket sport seats Kenwood Blue-Tooth radio RE-Upholstered rear-seat New A/C compressor, dryer and evaporator condenser New front ball-joints, brake-pads front & rear, front rotors Replaced wiper motor to a new XJS version (orig cable version was problematic) 17” Jaguar XK8 Wheels w/ Firestone Firehawk Indy500 tires – very good tread / condition. Front shocks replaced / have 4ea new rear shocks that have not been installed. John’s Cars conversion for the small-block engine. Previous owner (2-owners ago) had the V12 replaced with a GM crate motor via a GM Mechanic in California – I replaced the crate engine with a built-up small-block I had pulled from my ’71 Camaro. Engine: Built by John ‘Stump’ Griffis – Rebel Rebuilders in Little Rock, AR http://www.rebelrebuilders.com/meet,the,staff.html Small-Block Chevy 350 cu/in – bored .060 = 360 cu/in 4-Bolt Main w/ windage screen and hi-volume Melling oil pump. Block Line-Honed / Internals balanced. Hypereutectic pistons – 9.8 Compression Heads: Double-Hump Corvette Fuelie heads: 2.02 intake / 1.60 exhaust – 3-angle valve job Cam: 288/292 duration - .450/.460 Lift Nice idle, near duplicate of the Chevy L46 350 hp/350 camshaft, GM #3896962 Weiand Street Warrior intake, Holley Demon 625 carburetor, HEI Distributor Chrome A/C compressor & Chrome 1-Wire 120-amp alternator AGM Battery & Powermaster High-Torque starter New Exhaust (Dual-In / Dual-Out turbo-muffler only) – Not too loud at all but VERY nice throaty rumble as a result of cam and exhaust. Needs: Heat does not work, have not dug into as I rarely drive it during winter (Note A/C does work). Steering rack leaks (new unit from Detroit Axle but leaking / needs seal kit) Seal Kit available here for $94.95 https://powersteeringseals.com/product/jaguar-xjs-1976-1981/#tab-description Window Seals in fair condition; some wind noise & leaks IF under hi-pressure at car wash.
