The classic Chevy truck eras
Four generations dominate the hobby. The Advance Design series (1947–1955) brought post-war styling and the beloved 3100 half-ton. The Task Force era (1955–1959) introduced the Apache name, wraparound glass, and V8 power. The C/K series launched in 1960 and hit its stride with the 1967–1972 "Action Line" C10 — arguably the most collected classic truck in America. The square body era (1973–1987) is the fastest-appreciating segment today, with clean survivors climbing steadily.
What to look for when buying
Rust decides everything on these trucks: check cab corners, rocker panels, floor pans, bed floors, and the windshield channel. Mechanical parts are cheap and everywhere — sheet metal repair is what costs money. Numbers-matching matters less than on cars; buyers pay for straight bodies, factory V8s, short beds, and desirable trims (Cheyenne, Silverado). A small-block 350 swap is so common it barely affects value on driver-quality trucks.
