Classic Trucks Under $5,000
Under $5,000 is the entry point to classic truck ownership — and the trucks here reflect that honestly. Expect project pickups, rust work, missing parts, and mechanical catch-up. Done right, a $3,000–$4,000 square body or F-100 can become a great truck with patience and a realistic budget. Browse current listings below and check our valuation tool before you make an offer.

Frequently asked questions
At this price point expect project trucks: vehicles with rust, deferred maintenance, incomplete restorations, or missing parts. Running drivers under $5K exist but require careful searching. Common finds include 1970s–1980s Chevrolet C10s with rust issues, Ford F-100s needing bodywork, and GMC pickups with mechanical problems.
Not always — surface rust and minor panel rust can be addressed. The dealbreakers are frame rust (check the rails front to back), cab floor rot, and cab corner rot that extends into the structure. Minor cosmetic rust is priced into the cheap truck market; structural rust makes a truck more expensive to fix than its value.
Budget at least the same amount as the purchase price for immediate repairs — a $3,000 truck realistically needs a $3,000 work budget. Common expenses: brake system overhaul ($400–800), cooling system refresh ($300–600), carb rebuild or fuel system work ($200–500), tires ($600–1,000), and any bodywork. Go in with a full budget before you commit.
Look for trucks with the cheapest parts and strongest communities: Chevrolet C10 and C20 (GM parts are everywhere and cheap), Ford F-100 (massive aftermarket), and GMC pickups (share nearly all C/K parts). Avoid rare or low-production trucks where parts are expensive and scarce — at the project level, parts cost matters as much as purchase price.
