Muscle Cars of Texas

Muscle Cars of Texas is a classic car restoration shop at 690 FM 517 in Alvin, Texas. It also sells finished cars from a small "Cars for Sale" page on its website. It is an independent business and is not affiliated with Classic Cars Arena.

What the shop does

The company's website says it specializes in frame-on and frame-off restorations and restomods, and can also do detailing, bodywork and tune-ups. Its home page gallery shows a 1978 Chevrolet Pace Car, a 1954 Buick Roadmaster, a 1957 Bel Air and a 1969 El Camino. In a July 2024 report, FOX 26 Houston said the shop has been restoring and working on classic cars for the past 20 years. We did not find a founding year on the company's own pages, so we do not give one.

Cars for sale

The cars-for-sale page was small when we checked. It showed six cars with prices. Two 1939 Chevrolet models, a two-door sedan and a sedan delivery, were each priced at $30,000, a 1952 Chevrolet pickup at $85,000 and a 1972 maroon Corvette at $75,000. Two 1965 Corvettes, one in Nassau Blue and a 396 Turbo Jet coupe, were listed at $175,000 and $180,000. The page also still carries leftover template text about fitness classes and donations, so call to confirm which cars are actually available before planning a trip.

Buying from a restoration shop

Buying a car from the shop that built it is different from buying at a dealer. You can often ask the people who did the work exactly what was replaced, redone or left original, and ask for photographs from the build. The company does not publish a warranty, a deposit policy, financing or shipping options, and it does not mention consignment, so ask about each of those directly. A reasonable checklist includes build photos, receipts for major parts, a clean title and an independent inspection if you are paying a six-figure price. Our guide on how to buy a classic car walks through those checks.

Reputation

The Better Business Bureau has a profile for the shop. It is not accredited and carries no rating, and the one customer review we saw was positive and came from a long-time friend of the shop's owner. We found no other review counts we could verify. FOX 26 Houston's segment gives some independent coverage of the shop, but it is a short feature rather than a customer survey.
