1973 MG MGB Convertible. Thanks to included restoration photos, we know this car started out red but has undergone a complete rotisserie restoration with all corrosion removed and then painted in dark purple! Handsome little car with the low-profile bumpers just before federal regulations required 5 mph crash protection requiring large unsightly bumpers to be installed onto svelte European styled cars. The paint on this car is driver quality and does have some orange peel, but thanks to a recent polish it still looks pretty good.
Chrome, stainless trim and wheels are all in nice shape. The convertible top is also still in nice condition but is a little tricky to get up and down in a hurry. A parade boot and wind deflector also come with the car.
Interestingly the car has 3 wipers right from factory! The interior is all in nice condition, with much of it original to the car. The seats do look like they are recovered. All gauges are in working condition.
The manual choke is required to start the car, and once it’s warmed up, the car is a lot of fun to drive. Powering the little Brit is a 1.8-liter OHV inline 4 cylinder with twin SU carburetors. It makes approximately 80 hp, which is plenty for such a small car.
Under the hood, the restoration work is also very neat and tidy. The engine has had an oil change already this year. Behind that is a 4-speed synchronized manual transmission. Currently there is no radio in this one, but there’s evidence there was one installed once.
Plenty of work getting this little car back onto the road. You certainly couldn’t build one for the asking price of his car. The odometer shows 72,000 miles, which is likely original, but with restoration work and only 5 digits, true milage is unknown.

Classic MG MGB Buyer's Guide (1962–1980)
I came to the MGB through the back door, as a Datsun person who kept borrowing a friend's roadster for weekend runs up the coast. What struck me wasn't the horsepower (there isn't much) but the engineering integrity: a proper monocoque structure, all-synchromesh gearbox, independent front suspension, and a remarkably well-sorted chassis for a car designed in 1960. More than half a million MGBs were sold over eighteen years, which means parts availability is exceptional and the community is enormous. It also means the market is flooded with cars that have been poorly maintained, badly restored, or modified in ways that hurt both performance and value. Buying right requires knowing exactly what to look for.
