White Post Restorations

White Post Restorations is a long-established restoration house in the Shenandoah Valley village of White Post, Virginia. A 2026 Blue Ridge Country feature says William Raymond Thompson founded it in 1940 as a two-bay auto and farm equipment repair shop, and that five generations of the family have since been involved. If you are comparing shops, see choosing a classic car restoration shop.

History and ownership

The magazine feature describes Billy Thompson II as the person who grew the business into a restoration firm, with W.R. Thompson III now serving as president and Billy Ray Thompson IV as vice president of operations. The shop's own site gives 1940 as its start and says it has restored more than 1,000 cars, from Rolls-Royce to Ford. That count is the shop's own claim.

What they restore

The shop says it works on all makes, with a lean toward fine and antique automobiles rather than a single marque. The feature mentions complete and partial restorations of antique cars.

Work done in-house

• Mechanical work
• Upholstery
• Sheet metal fabrication
• Paint and bodywork
• Woodworking and coachbuilding
• Mail-order brake sleeving and rebuilding, which the feature says is about 40 percent of the business
