Description

Rare survivor of wood-body craftsmanship: an original 1948 Chevrolet Woodie Wagon in Live Oak Green, one of fewer than 100 estimated to exist today. Fisher Body hand-built these beauties for only three years, crafting ash frames with mahogany side panels finished in protective varnish. This example retains all three factory seats—front, middle jump seat, and rear—along with the original metal spare tire cover on the lift gate, both pieces rarely preserved on surviving examples.

The factory-installed directional signals add a safety upgrade that's period-correct and practical for modern driving. The wood body shows honest patina consistent with age and honest use. These labor-intensive wagons were discontinued in 1949 when all-steel construction took over, making any survivor a direct connection to GM's final era of traditional coachcraft.

The three-row seating made these wagons popular with hotels and institutions needing passenger capacity beyond standard sedans. This is authentic automotive history you can actually drive.
