1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS/RS Indianapolis Pace Car Convertible. This is one special car and with a nut and bolt rotisserie restoration! The included window sticker shows us that this doesn’t just look like a pace car, IT IS a real 1969 pace car Camaro! It was sold new at Asheville Chevrolet in North Carolina and came equipped with soft ray tinted glass, Deluxe seat belts, front and rear floor mats, door edge guards, white manual convertible top, center console with shifter, Air spoiler, Posi-traction 4.10 rear differential, Turbo Hydramatic 350, Power steering, sport wheels, AM pushbutton radio, front and rear bumper guards, rally wheels, Orange vinyl/houndstooth trim, Indy 500 pace car accents and 50-50 dover white paint! It retailed for $3758.30 and we dare say it’s worth quite a bit more than that 58 years later! The car comes fully restored and is in phenomenal condition top to bottom, inside and out. The grabber orange stripes are well buried in the paint, which is all glossy smooth and very nice.
The chrome is fresh. Vacuum hide-away headlights work as they should too. Period correct Firestone Wide O Oval tires on restored rally wheels are just right. The pace car lettering is all in place and the badging is all correct around the car.
Even the tailpipes are done up to factory specs. The car looks great from every angle and the cowl hood (factory) and rear spoiler give it some attitude. The car was ordered with a 350 and TH350 automatic.
Unfortunately, the original engine is long gone, but a new crate 350 is in its place with only a few modifications from stock such as the Edelbrock intake Edelbrock carb and new radiator. When the restoration of the car took place, there was no powertrain in it at that point. Everything else under the hood is restored to factory specs and looks fantastic! Power steering and power disc brakes are great to have.
The corners up front and out back in the trunk have the correct “counterweight cocktail shakers” in them. The underside of the car has also been restored to factory specs and is well detailed. The car has a nice white convertible top, but it is manually operated.
Thankfully it can still be done with one person and is straight forward. Restoration work on the interior is just as good as the exterior with perfect Hugger orange deluxe door panels, orange houndstooth seats all brand new, new carpets and floor mats and a well restored dashboard and center console, looking just like they would have brand new. The only interior modification from stock we spot is a modern radio in place of the original, but the factory one is in the trunk and nothing on the dashboard was cut to install the moder radio.
Even door sill plates are all new. Everywhere you look, the car is incredible with extreme detail and care taken with the restoration. Some of the extra’s with the car are also very cool, including a race day program from the 1969 Indianapolis 500 race, featuring a centerfold double page ad for this exact car! A real ticket to the race and the envelope it came it also are included! Some real original race memorabilia.
The car looks even better in person that it does in the pictures! Talk about a car that can be enjoyed that will only go up in value! A great investment opportunity and the chance to own some real automotive history is waiting right here at Rods! The odometer reads 85,000 miles, but with an engine swap and restoration, true milage is unknown.

Classic Chevrolet Camaro Buyer's Guide
The Chevrolet Camaro launched in September 1966 as Chevy's direct response to the Ford Mustang, and for over five decades it has defined American performance for an entire generation of enthusiasts. Whether you're hunting a numbers-matching first-generation Z/28, a survivor split-bumper second-gen, or a clean third-gen IROC-Z, the Camaro buyer's market is deep, varied, and full of pitfalls for the unprepared.
