AutoWorld of Conway Classics and Specialties

AutoWorld of Conway Classics and Specialties is the classic car arm of AutoWorld of Conway, a used vehicle dealer in Conway, South Carolina, a few miles inland from Myrtle Beach. The classics operation has its own lot on US-501 and sells American muscle cars, collector models, vintage trucks and imports. The company says it owns all of its classics and does not take them on consignment.

History

The dealer says AutoWorld of Conway was founded in 2005 by partners Ron and Dan. A local news report on the company's 20th anniversary describes the start as a half-acre lot on Highway 90 with five cars, and says the business has since grown to more than five acres, a separate classic car lot on Highway 501 and roughly 58 employees. Those growth figures come from that report and the company, not from an independent count.

What they sell

The dealer's site describes inventory ranging from 1960s muscle cars and 1950s trucks and sedans to low-mileage cars from the 1980s and 1990s. Models it names include Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros, Dodge Chargers, Pontiac GTOs and vintage Corvettes, along with imports such as classic Mercedes-Benz sedans and British roadsters. Stock changes constantly, and the dealer also lists on Classics on Autotrader and Cars.com.

How the business works

This is a dealer, not a consignment house. The company states that it owns every classic it sells. Its site mentions three services aimed at classic buyers: financing for classic cars, which it presents as a specialty, a car-locating service for buyers who want a particular model, and shipping, including overseas. It also says a certified service team that works on classic cars is part of the business. Terms, rates and fees are not published, so ask for them in writing.

Buying from AutoWorld

The company reports that its customers come from well beyond Conway, so distance buying is common. As with any remote purchase, ask for the VIN, title status and detailed photos or video, and consider a third-party inspection before paying. If a car is financed, compare the rate with what your own bank or credit union would offer. Our guide to buying from a classic car dealer outlines what to check at each stage.

Reputation

AutoWorld of Conway has operated under that name for about 20 years and has active listings on Yelp, Cars.com and DealerRater. We did not verify a star rating or review count on any of them, so we do not quote one. Because the business also sells ordinary used cars, review pages may mix comments about different parts of the company. Look for reviews that mention the classics lot specifically.

Visiting the classics lot

The classics and specialties location is at 850 US-501 South, Conway, SC 29526, separate from the main used car lot on Highway 90. The number we found for the dealership is (843) 347-2500, though another listing shows a different number for the same address, so confirm by phone before you drive out. Hours were not available from the company's own site. For other cars in the region, see classic cars for sale in South Carolina.
