About Delray Motorcars

Delray Motorcars is a small, owner-run classic car dealer in Vero Beach, on Florida's Treasure Coast. Despite the name, the business is not in Delray Beach: its address is on 18th Place in Vero Beach. The company describes itself as an independent dealership founded in 1973, and its owner, Jay H. Storch, signs the About page himself. The stock is small and changes slowly, mixing prewar and postwar collector cars with a few late-model convertibles and luxury cars.

Three generations of car dealers

The family history is the center of how Delray Motorcars presents itself. According to its own site, the family's dealerships go back to 1929 on Storch's maternal grandfather's side, 1937 on his paternal grandfather's side, and 1949 with his father. The franchises the family held over the years included Chrysler, Plymouth, DeSoto, Jaguar, MG and Volkswagen, along with used cars of all makes.

Storch writes that he was introduced to collector cars at a very young age by his father and his maternal grandfather, and that antique cars, domestic and imported, "were a way of life in our family." A photo on the About page shows him with Donald Davidson, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway historian, who the caption says was a friend of his grandfather Frank W. Huffman, a keen supporter of the Indianapolis race.

What Delray Motorcars sells

The company says it offers "late model interesting domestic and import brands" alongside antique, classic, special interest and vintage cars. Its inventory page bears that out. At the time of our check it listed six cars, all located in Vero Beach and all without published prices:

  • a 1932 DeSoto Six SC Deluxe Roadster
  • a 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 MK II Roadster
  • a 1995 Range Rover Classic County long wheelbase
  • a 2005 Cadillac XLR, a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG Cabriolet and a 2008 Mercedes-Benz SL550

The dealer's listings on Carsforsale.com showed a different pair: a 1967 Austin Mini Moke at $35,800 and a late-model Acura. Because the inventory page and the third-party listings did not match, buyers should treat any list as a starting point and call to confirm what is actually available.

The sold archive on the company's site gives a better sense of its taste. It is split by era, and the 1930 to 1959 and 1960 to 1980 pages lean toward open cars and British sports cars: a 1933 Packard convertible coupe with Gibbon coachwork, a 1936 Chrysler Airstream convertible, MG TC, TD and TF roadsters, an MGA coupe, a Daimler SP250, a Morgan Plus 4, two Porsche 356 coupes, Ford Thunderbird convertibles, a 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge and several Mercedes-Benz SL roadsters.

Auctions and outside listings

Besides its own website, Delray Motorcars has used online auctions. In April 2025 it offered a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL on Bring a Trailer, listed as a dealer sale from Vero Beach. Bidding reached $75,000, and the car did not sell at that figure. The dealer also lists on Carsforsale.com and other used car portals.

Buying from Delray Motorcars

The company's site is short on process detail. It does not publish prices, a deposit policy, financing, shipping or inspection terms, so all of that has to be settled by phone. For a small dealer whose cars are mostly older collector vehicles, that is not unusual, but it does mean the buyer needs to ask the questions. Before committing, read up on what to check before you buy, ask for the VIN and title status, and arrange an independent inspection of the specific car, especially if you are buying from out of state.

Two other services are mentioned on the About page. The company says it offers cosmetic and mechanical restoration work and consultation on restoration projects. It also says it helps customers buy or lease brand new cars through a network of dealer contacts built up over several decades. The site gives no further detail on either service.

Reputation

Delray Motorcars has a light public footprint. We did not find a Better Business Bureau profile for the Vero Beach business. On Google, as aggregated by Birdeye, it had a 4.6 star average from 8 reviews when we checked. Reviewers described the owner as easy to deal with and trustworthy, and one mentioned finding a very clean car in his stock. Eight reviews is a small sample, so it is worth judging any purchase on the car itself and the paperwork that comes with it.
