Duffy's Classic Cars

Duffy's Classic Cars is a classic car dealer at 250 Classic Car Ct SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On its own site, the company describes itself as the area's leading classic car dealership with worldwide service since 1983, and says it procures and resells classic cars with an emphasis on American muscle. The BBB's file gives a later start date, so the history is worth asking about directly.

How the business works

Duffy's buys cars for resale and sells them from its own showroom, so it works as a traditional dealer rather than a consignment house. The BBB lists Dwayne Smith as the owner and describes the work as the sale and service of classic automobiles. Besides sales, the company says it does mechanical work and maintenance, restoration, detailing, electrical work and interior work, which makes it more than a lot that simply moves cars.

What it sells

The company's emphasis is American muscle, and directory listings describe a showroom of restored classics mainly from the 1930s to the 1980s, along with some trucks. Directories give different counts of cars on hand, from a few dozen online listings to descriptions of a much larger showroom, so rely on the current inventory page rather than any single figure. Listings on Autotrader Classics and AllCollectorCars show the cars it is advertising at a given time.

Buying from Duffy's

Listings for the dealership say financing is available, that it can ship vehicles, and that it can help with trade-ins. Confirm the details on any specific car, including who pays for transport and what the lender requires. If you are new to dealer purchases, how to buy a classic car from a dealer walks through the questions to ask on title, history and condition. Restored cars deserve extra scrutiny: ask who did the work, request photos from the restoration and look for receipts.

Reputation

The BBB lists Duffy's with a B- rating and says the business is not BBB accredited, although some directories imply otherwise. The BBB file shows a start date of May 2013, while the company's own site cites 1983, which may reflect an earlier history under another entity or name; the sources we saw do not explain the difference. Customer reviews appear on Yelp, where we saw a count of 17 reviews, and on Birdeye, which lists 94. We did not confirm a star rating, so we do not quote one.
