Fawcett Motor Carriage Company

Fawcett Motor Carriage Company is a restoration shop in Whitby, Ontario, that also buys and sells antique and vintage cars. The company traces its start to 1964 and says it has purchased, sold and restored hundreds of vehicles since then. It is an independent business and is not affiliated with Classic Cars Arena.

History

According to the company's own account, Ron Fawcett and his father ran a small garage on Park Road in Oshawa. In 1964 Ron started Ron Fawcett Motor Carriage Company in Whitby. In 1981, Peter Fawcett and Art Carty took over the antique car restoration business, and the site now carries the name Fawcett Motor Carriage (1981) Company. A Yelp listing says the Fawcett family still owns and operates the business. The website heading reads "award winning restorations since 1964," which is a company claim we could not check independently.

How the business works

Restoration is the core of the business, and car sales sit beside it. The site describes buying, selling and restoring antique and classic vehicles, and says the company will consider late model trades on antique and classic cars. It does not mention consignment, so a seller who wants to place a car should ask directly whether that is possible. The site also shows a 1916 Pierce Arrow project car.

What it sells

The home page showed a 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback and a 1926 Pierce-Arrow as available, with a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, a 1947 Buick Roadmaster, a 1915 Ford Model T and a 1978 Ford 500 marked as sold. A Yelp listing describes the focus as antique and classic automobiles from the 1900s to the 1960s. Prices were not shown on the home page, so ask for them.

Services listed

• Restoration of antique and classic cars.
• Buying and selling antique and vintage vehicles, including trades.
• Insurance appraisals, according to a Yelp listing.

Financing, shipping and pre-purchase inspections are not mentioned on the pages we read, so ask about them if you are buying from a distance. Our guide to buying from a classic car dealer explains what to check before you commit to any purchase.

Reputation

We found no BBB profile and no review counts that we could verify. As with any restoration shop that sells cars, check the title, ask what work was done on a car and by whom, and consider an independent inspection. To compare other sellers, browse more classic cars in Ontario.
