Marshall Motors

Marshall Motors, which trades online as Marshall Motors Classics, is an independent dealer of older cars, trucks and project vehicles at 4500 Ann Arbor Road in Jackson, Michigan, about 70 miles west of Detroit. The Better Business Bureau lists Don Marshall as the owner and gives a business start date of March 2010. The dealer describes its stock as classics, rat rods and project vehicles, and its inventory pages on third-party listing sites have regularly shown more than 100 vehicles at a time.

How the business works

Marshall Motors appears to be a conventional dealership that sells vehicles it owns rather than a consignment house. Nothing found in this research indicates that it takes cars on consignment. That is typical of a lot built around volume and variety. Buyers deal directly with the dealer, and sellers who want help marketing a car on an owner's behalf would need to look elsewhere.

What Marshall Motors sells

The range is broad and deliberately mixed. Listings on Carsforsale.com have covered cars from 1929 through 1989, and the dealer's own site is organized into categories that include pickup trucks, motorcycles and scooters, and RVs and campers, as well as cars. Business directory descriptions say the stock includes nice older drivers, rat rods, off the wall oddities, project cars and parts cars, with some vehicles finished, some partly restored and some needing complete restoration. Prices on the listing pages have started at around $1,000, which makes the lot a realistic stop for first-time project buyers as well as people looking for a driver. When you want to compare against other sellers, there are plenty of Michigan classic cars for sale from dealers and private owners around the state.

Buying from Marshall Motors

Third-party listing pages for the dealer mention financing through a partner lender, help arranging shipping, and layaway plans that run for a number of months. Those terms can change, so confirm the details directly with the dealer before relying on them. Project cars and rat rods deserve extra scrutiny: ask what has actually been done to a car, whether the title is clean and in hand, and have a mechanic look at frame, brakes and wiring before you commit. Our guide on what to check before you buy walks through the basics for any dealer purchase.

Other services

Beyond sales, the business says it offers vehicles for movie rentals, photo shoots, events and commercials, and takes part in some charity events. It is an unusual sideline for a car dealer. Anyone interested should ask the business directly about availability and terms.

Reputation

The BBB gives Marshall Motors an A+ rating but notes that the business is not BBB accredited. When this profile was researched, the BBB page showed no complaints closed in the last three years and no customer reviews on file. We could not verify a star rating or review count on Google, Yelp or Facebook, so none is given here. Treat the A+ as a limited signal, since it rests on a small amount of recorded activity.
