Description
1953 Mercury Monterey 2 Door Hardtop “Shes Named Blue Heaven” Original 255 V8 Flathead fitted to the original 3 Speed on the Column 'Blue Heaven' has that Old Skool look & sound, she is very clean and runs, drives and sounds great. The interior is in very good condition and with new Grey fabric trim it feels like riding on a sofa, glass, hood lining, carpet and door cards are all in very good condition. The original Flathead was rebuilt several years ago and sounds great, fitted to its original 3 speed trans on the column it shifts and runs down the road smoothly.
It has had many period options added to make her the beauty she is with some of them being Lakes Pipes, Dummy Spots, Striping and Machined knobs on the interior controls. The car underwent a body on restoration several years ago and looks great in Baby Blue with a lot of detail and has had a lot of awesome hand striping added throughout the car, she does have some crazing in the paint but for her age she shines and looks great. The trunk has several autographs that have been confirmed by the previous owner and several photos attached from the car show in 2006 where it was signed by Gene Winfield, Darryl Starbird and Sam Barris.
These are getting harder to find in the 2 Door Hard-Top Option and shes a great car to cruise Route 66 or attend local car shows and cruise nights with the family as she will comfortably seat 6 adults. The car has a clear title. Mercury Monterey Buyer's Guide
Jim Vasquez here. When people talk about the "'51 Mercury," they usually mean any early-1950s Merc — and the Monterey is the car they mean. It was Mercury's top trim level for most of its run, the version that came with the most chrome, the best interior, and the proportions that George Barris, the Ayala brothers, and a hundred backyard customizers attacked with lead sleds and lowering blocks. The 1952–1956 Monterey is custom culture's favorite canvas.
But the Monterey story doesn't end in the 1950s. By 1966, Mercury was dropping the 427ci FE big block into the Monterey — a NASCAR-derived engine in a full-size cruiser. Same name, completely different animal. Two very different cars for two very different collectors.
