Steel City Classics

Steel City Classics is a classic car dealer at 2102 Wenonah Oxmoor Road in Birmingham, Alabama. The business calls itself "Alabama's Classic Car Headquarters" and says it offers sales, service and builds, with vintage and classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, trucks and motorcycles all in the mix.

Who they are and how it started

According to the About page on the company's site, the owner, who signs as Lee, was born in Birmingham and grew up watching his father buy and sell classic and collector vehicles. The hobby grew into a business. The company says it started a website in 2007 and bought a showroom in 2015. The Better Business Bureau lists a business start date of July 7, 2007 and names Lee Suttles as a partner.

How the business works

Steel City Classics sells cars from its own showroom and also takes cars from owners who want to sell. Its site menu includes a "Consign My Vehicle" page, a trade appraisal form and a "Classic Car Finder" for buyers looking for a specific model. If you are considering handing over your car, read up on selling a classic on consignment first, and get the fee, the agreement length and the insurance arrangements in writing. We could not retrieve the consignment page itself, so its terms are not described here.

What they sell

An archived copy of the homepage from August 2025 showed a mix of American cars, mostly from the 1940s through the 1990s. It included a 1948 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight, a 1953 Cadillac Custom, 1955 and 1956 Chevrolet Bel Airs, a 1964 Chevrolet Biscayne, a 1968 and a 1991 Chevrolet Corvette, a 1976 Ford F100 and a 1991 Camaro. A few later vehicles and motorcycles appeared alongside them, including a 2004 Honda S2000 and a 2012 Harley-Davidson Road King. Search listings seen more recently counted 16 vehicles, with asking prices running from about $8,000 for a 1949 Dodge Coronet to $48,000 for the Oldsmobile. Stock turns over, so check the current inventory.

Buying from Steel City Classics

The site offers a financing page with pre-approval and a trade appraisal tool for owners who want to apply a current car toward a purchase. The company also lists a service department and a shop that does builds. If you are buying from a distance, ask for a walk-around video, the title status and a clear account of any restoration or repair work, and consider hiring an independent inspector. To compare asking prices, Alabama classic cars for sale are listed on Classic Cars Arena.

Reputation

The business has operated under the same name and address for years, with listings on Classics on Autotrader and other marketplaces. The BBB lists Steel City Classics, LLC as not accredited. We did not find a review platform showing a rating from at least 10 reviews, so no star rating is quoted here. Judge any seller on the specific car: verify the paperwork and get promises about condition in writing.
