Veit's Vettes & Collector Cars

Veit's Vettes & Collector Cars is a classic car dealer at 1838 State Street in Bettendorf, Iowa, on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities along the Mississippi River. The company says it has served automobile enthusiasts and sold collector cars professionally since 1996, and describes its owners as collectors for more than 40 years. The name points to Corvettes, but the inventory it advertises is broader than that.

How the business works

Veit's is a dealer that buys and sells cars from its own stock rather than a consignment house. The Better Business Bureau describes the company as handling the sales, trade and purchasing of classic vehicles, which means it takes cars in as well as selling them. The BBB lists E J Veit as president and Cary Veit as manager. Its site also mentions a vehicle location service: if the car you want is not on the lot, the company says it will try to find one.

What it sells

Listings on Autotrader Classics and other marketplaces show a mix of Corvettes, Ford Mustangs and other Fords, Mopar muscle, Chevelles and Pontiac GTOs, along with other American collector cars and some trucks. The company says it sells survivor classics and restored cars, and that its staff puts each vehicle through an inspection before it is offered. Stock changes often, so check the current list before making a trip.

Cars are kept in a climate-controlled showroom, according to the company. That is useful for a buyer who wants to see paint and interiors in good light, and it suggests the cars are not left outside between sales.

Buying from Veit's

The company's site lists several services for out-of-town buyers:

• Financing for qualified buyers through lenders that specialize in classic and collector cars.
• Shipping arranged through professional transport partners, which the company says it coordinates for the customer.
• Trades, since the business both sells and purchases classics.

Nothing replaces your own homework, whichever dealer you use. Our notes on buying a classic car from a dealer cover the paperwork, title checks and inspection steps that apply to any purchase, in person or remote. For a Corvette or muscle car in particular, ask about matching numbers, repaints and restoration records, and consider a third-party inspection if you cannot visit.

Reputation

The BBB lists Veit's with an A rating. The business is not BBB accredited, and the BBB's file gives a start date of 1984, earlier than the 1996 the company cites for professional sales. The two may describe different things, so treat the founding date with some care. The company also has a Yelp page and appears on several classic car marketplaces, which gives buyers more than one place to read about it before they call. We did not find enough reviews on one platform to quote a rating.
