Description
This is a very rare 64 1/2 Mustang Coupe, originally purchased in California at Corona Del Mar Ford in 1964. Has the original black plates. It was handed down to kids and grandkids for 62 years. I have a 2010 California Pink Slip indicating 1964 as first year sold and ready for transfer to one of the grandkids.
I have California registration slips dating back to 1972. Time capsule, 1 Family owned 1964.5 Mustang Coupe. Original 'D' code 289 4V Engine with a 3 speed C4 Automatic Transmission. Factory AC, Power Steering.
Runs and drives great, Engine and Transmission appear to have been recently rebuilt. No Noises and no leaks. This car has all the special things that make it a very early Pre 1965 production Mustang. This is a rare unmolested Mustang.
I mean by that is that it appears to have never hot rodded. It still has the factory single exhaust system. Factory Wheels and Hubcaps. I think the only item not original is the radio and the Carburetor.
The California pink slip indicates first year sold as 1964. Production date is June 1964. Production number 1106.(Very Low production number) It still has the original black California plates. I have Documentation back to 1972 The body is very straight but needs a paint job.
The chassis is excellent. Frame extensions and floorboards are very good. The shock towers have not been cut or drilled. Doors, Trunk and hood open and close as they should, Very good for a 62 year old car.
The dash and dash pad are in very good condition. ( appear to be original) The only rust conduction is on both doors at the lower front corners. This is very common for the 65 and 66 Mustang. Even in California.
This is currently being repaired. Metal plate is welded in to fill in the area, Area treated and will be ready for paint. + It starts right up, Idles smooth, Transmission works great, Brakes work great. The AC is not working and the Power steering works good.
The original upholstery was brittle and torn. It has been replaced. Front seats also got new foam inserts. New Carpet also installed. With the low production number and manufacture date and it being very original, it is a very rare 64 1/2 Mustang.

Classic Ford Mustang Buyer's Guide
The Ford Mustang launched on April 17, 1964 and sold a million units faster than any car in American history. Sixty years later, the first-generation Mustang (1964½-1973) remains the cornerstone of the classic car hobby, the gateway car for new collectors, the trophy car for veteran enthusiasts, and the most cloned, faked, and re-stamped muscle car on the market. Whether you're hunting a base inline-six coupe or a documented Boss 429, knowing what separates the real cars from the tribute builds is the difference between an investment and a money pit.
