1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer — AMC 401 V8 — 4WD — Classic SUV Here’s a great-looking 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the classic style and presence that makes these SUVs so desirable. With 209,000 miles on the body and a replacement AMC 401 V8, this Wagoneer has plenty of character and an unmistakable vintage Jeep feel. The AMC 401 runs great and is paired with a TorqueFlite automatic transmission and heavy-duty high/low-range 4WD.

The engine is carbureted with no computer controls and has been upgraded with a Demon 2-barrel carburetor. The exterior presents very well for its age. The Dover Grey paint, woodgrain trim, and decals give it the iconic Grand Wagoneer appearance, while the maroon leather interior is exceptionally nice.

The leather seats, headliner, and dash are all in excellent condition, and the carpet remains presentable. Power seats, power door locks, rear tailgate glass, and front windows are functional. It also has a Kenwood stereo with Jensen front and rear speakers and USB connectivity, providing a very nice modern audio experience while retaining the classic look.

The air conditioning has a new compressor and uses R12 refrigerant and works great. Power steering and handling are firm and responsive, and the Jeep sits on new heavy-duty tires with the factory wheels. Salvage Title / History The Jeep has a Nevada salvage title resulting from hail damage many years ago.

The previous owner purchased it back from the insurance company and had the hail damage repaired. There is no visible sign of the previous hail damage, and there is no indication of frame damage. This is a classic Grand Wagoneer that gets attention everywhere it goes.

It has the big-body presence, woodgrain styling, V8 sound, and genuine 4WD capability that make these vehicles such fun collector and cruising vehicles. This isn't your ordinary modern SUV — it's a classic Jeep with serious personality and plenty of wow factor. Robert Halloran here. I want to be direct: the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the most important SUV in history. Not the Range Rover (which came later), not the Ford Bronco (which was smaller), and certainly not the Toyota Land Cruiser (which was stripped by comparison). The Wagoneer proved in 1963 that a 4WD vehicle could have air conditioning, power windows, leather seats, and wood paneling — and buyers would pay for the combination. Every Range Rover, every Cadillac Escalade, and every Lincoln Navigator owes its existence to the Wagoneer concept.

The Grand Wagoneer name was applied in 1984 to distinguish the original full-size wagon from the smaller Cherokee-based Wagoneer. But collectors use "Grand Wagoneer" to cover the entire 1963–1991 production run of the original full-size body. This guide covers that complete run.

What to Check Before Buying
