Whitmore Motors, LLC

Whitmore Motors, LLC is a classic and used car dealer at 1297 US Route 42 in Ashland, Ohio, in the north central part of the state. It sells mostly affordable American cars from the 1950s through the 1970s, with a scattering of British sports cars, orphan brands and ordinary used cars mixed in. Its own website could not be reached when this profile was researched, so the details below come from the dealer's archived site, the Better Business Bureau and marketplace listings, and a phone call before a visit is a good idea.

Background

The Better Business Bureau profile for Whitmore Motors, LLC lists a business start date of January 1, 2003 and names Robert B. Whitmore as the owner. The dealer operates as a stock dealer rather than a consignment house: the cars it advertises are its own inventory, and nothing on its site or listings suggests it takes cars on consignment.

What Whitmore Motors sells

A copy of the dealer's website saved in March 2025 showed a stock built around driver-quality American cars. Examples included a 1964 Studebaker Hawk, a 1958 Ford F-100 pickup, a 1978 Pontiac Safari wagon, a 1978 Buick Riviera, a 1959 Ford Galaxie, a 1949 Kaiser Manhattan, a 1957 Cadillac Series 62 and a 1975 MGB. Ford, Chevrolet and Buick were the most common makes on the site, and the Corvettes on its marketplace listings fit the same pattern.

Whitmore is not a pure classic lot. Its site also listed everyday used cars such as a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta and a 1991 Ford Taurus, so buyers should check the model year before assuming a car is a collector piece. On ClassicCars.com the dealer had 36 listings, with sample asking prices running from under $10,000 for a 1975 MGB to a little over $38,000 for a 1969 Corvette. Marketplace pages describe prices starting at about $2,000. Inventory changes constantly, so treat these as examples only.

Buying from Whitmore Motors

The dealer's archived site included a financing page and invited visitors to trade in their vehicles, and the BBB profile also lists trade-in evaluations and financing options. Details such as rates, deposits and shipping are not published, so ask for them in writing. Many of these cars are older and priced for everyday enthusiasts, which makes a pre-purchase inspection especially worthwhile. Our advice on what to check before you buy applies to any dealer, including this one.

Reputation

Whitmore Motors holds an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and has been BBB accredited since September 21, 2018. The profile showed no complaints closed in the previous three years and one customer review on file. That is a limited record, but it is a clean one. Review aggregator sites show scattered positive comments about the staff, though those are not verifiable enough to quote here.
