Gearhead Classics
Sherman, Texas classic car dealer, formerly Classic Car Liquidators, that buys, sells, trades and consigns cars and runs its own restoration shop.
About Gearhead Classics
Gearhead Classics is a classic car dealership in Sherman, Texas, about an hour north of Dallas near the Oklahoma line. Until recently it traded as Classic Car Liquidators, a business that the Better Business Bureau lists as starting in 2011. The current owners say they bought it in mid-2016 and ran it under the old name for nearly nine years before renaming it Gearhead Classics. The company buys, sells, trades and consigns classic, vintage and specialty vehicles, and it runs its own service and restoration shop on the same site.
From Classic Car Liquidators to Gearhead Classics
The name change came with a stated change in direction. In its FAQ the company says the old name "no longer reflected our goal," and that it wants to sell "good, drivable classic cars that people can jump in and enjoy" rather than cheap projects. The old classiccarliquidators.com address now forwards to gearheadclassics.com, and the business has stayed at the same Sherman address through the change, so older reviews and listings under the Classic Car Liquidators name refer to the same operation.
The company describes itself as a licensed, bonded dealership and says it welcomes both dealers and the public. One of the owners, identified on the site as Robbie, handles financing requests.
How the business works
Gearhead Classics is mainly a stock dealer with a consignment program on the side. Its FAQ says "we own the majority of our cars" but have "started accepting more consignments" as demand grew. The company also says it buys cars daily: owners can email photos, details and an asking price, and if the dealer does not want to buy, it may offer to consign the car instead. Trade-ins are accepted, with a stated preference for other classics.
The company says it usually has 25 to 40 cars that are not yet advertised, and its new arrivals section previews them.
What Gearhead Classics sells
The stock leans toward American classics, muscle cars, hot rods and trucks. A look at the inventory in October 2026 showed Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Plymouth, Pontiac, GMC, International, Jeep and Willys plus a few outliers and some modern performance cars, with model years from 1931 to 2025. Asking prices ran from a few thousand dollars for project and utility items to a 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda listed at $399,999, with much of the stock between about $30,000 and $85,000.
The dealer is upfront about condition. Its buyer checklist says "90% of our vehicles are not fully restored" and that it sells "driver-quality classics," with a range that runs from projects to finished show cars.
Buying from Gearhead Classics: the house rules
The company publishes a ten-point checklist for buyers, and it is worth reading before calling. The main points:
- Deposits: a $500 non-refundable deposit, taken by credit card, holds a car for seven days. The balance is due within seven days, preferably by bank wire, with cashier's checks also accepted. Deposits cannot be refunded but can be moved to another car in inventory.
- As is, no warranty: every car is sold as is. The dealer says it runs a pre-delivery checklist and can share a video showing that the items listed as working do work.
- Mileage and codes: odometer readings on classics are treated as exempt unless documented, and engine and transmission codes are not guaranteed.
- Inspections and test drives: buyers are welcome to see a car in person, arrange a third-party inspection, or take a test drive.
Financing is available through lenders that specialize in classic cars, and the company arranges shipping through licensed and bonded carriers. It recommends shipping rather than driving an old car a long way home.
Consigning a car with Gearhead Classics
The consignment page sets out the terms in more detail than most dealers do. The company charges a base commission, which it does not publish. If it prices a car above the owner's asking figure, the extra left after commission and expenses is split 50/50 with the owner. At intake, the dealer may also make a cash offer on cars that fit its niche, and that offer stays open for the first 60 days of the consignment. Owners comparing deals can read our guide to classic car consignment fees and what they usually cover.
Consigned cars are advertised on the company's own site and on a list of outside marketplaces that includes ClassicCars.com, Autotrader Classics, Motorious, Old Ride, Cars-on-Line, eBay, Facebook and Instagram. The company says its Facebook following tops one million. Because the service department is on site, the dealer says it can fix problems that come up during a sale, such as an air conditioning fault a buyer wants repaired. Consigned cars need to be in good, drivable condition.
The facility and Gearhead Next Door Garage
According to the company, the Sherman site includes a front sales office, a 22,000 square foot showroom that holds well over 100 vehicles, a photo studio, a 2,400 square foot paint shop with a separate 1,000 square foot body shop, and a 20,000 square foot service area. That shop operates as Gearhead Next Door Garage, which handles repairs, upgrades and full restorations, with a focus on restomods and pro-touring builds. It works on both dealer cars and outside customers' cars.
