Performance Mustangs
Cypress, Texas dealer and restoration shop that has bought, sold and serviced classic and later V-8 Ford Mustangs since the late 1990s.
About Performance Mustangs
Performance Mustangs is a classic Mustang dealer and restoration shop in Cypress, Texas, on the northwest side of the Houston area. It has traded under the same name and the same 713-864-FAST phone number since at least 2001, and the company's own published sales figures point to a start in the late 1990s. Today it says it has 30 years behind it. The business concentrates on first-generation Mustangs from 1965 to 1970 and later V-8 cars, and it buys, sells, services and restores them under one roof.
A single-marque dealer with a long run
Archived versions of the company's website show how long it has stuck to one car. In 2001 it said it handled "only '87 and Newer V-8 Mustangs" and had sold 1,000 of them in four years. By 2005 it had widened that to "'65 - '70 or 1987 and newer V-8 Mustangs" and said it had sold more than 2,000 in eight years, calling itself "Houston's #1 Used Mustang Dealer." The current site says it has offered "Trusted Reliability for 30 Years."
For most of that time the business sat on the North Freeway (I-45) just north of downtown Houston. Around 2015 it moved to its current location on Cypress North Houston Road, about a quarter mile east of US 290, and announced the new address on its site. The name, phone number and focus stayed the same.
How the business works
Performance Mustangs is a conventional dealer that owns the cars it sells. It does not advertise a consignment program. Instead it buys cars outright, and the site repeats the message in several places: "We are always buying classic mustangs." Owners can contact the shop for a quote. The company's older site said it bought 99% of its cars from individuals rather than at auction, so it could learn each car's history and inspect it before buying.
Inventory is small. In October 2026 the site listed seven cars for sale, and the business keeps a separate gallery of sold vehicles. That makes it more of a specialist shop with a rotating handful of cars than a large lot.
What Performance Mustangs sells
The site sorts its stock by year, with sections for 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968 Mustangs and for Fox-body cars. The October 2026 inventory included 1966 and 1967 Mustang coupes between $28,995 and $32,995, a 1968 Mercury Cougar at $27,995, a 1989 Mustang convertible at $29,995, a 1960 Ford Ranchero at $20,995 and a 2001 Dodge Viper at $35,995.
The sold gallery fills in the picture. It lists about 40 cars from 2024 to 2026, most of them 1965 to 1968 Mustang coupes and convertibles last offered between roughly $27,000 and $45,000. Higher-end cars appear too, including a 1967 fastback last offered at $174,995 and a 1968 Mustang listed as a Bullitt at $84,995. Fox-body and later Mustangs, a 1967 Cougar XR7 and the odd non-Ford, such as a 1975 Toyota Land Cruiser, round it out.
Buying from Performance Mustangs
The site lists asking prices and has a button to schedule a showing, so the usual route is to call, arrange a time and see the car in person. The company says it ships worldwide. It does not finance cars itself; its financing page points buyers to three classic car lenders: Collector Car Lending, J.J. Best and Woodside Credit.
The site does not publish deposit terms, warranty terms or an inspection policy, so ask about all three before committing, and ask what work the shop has done on the car. Because the same business also services and upgrades these cars, a buyer can ask for added work such as air conditioning or power steering before delivery. For a broader checklist, see our guide to buying from a classic car dealer.
Restoration and service work
The workshop side of the business is substantial. Its published service menu focuses on 1965 to 1970 Mustangs and later V-8 cars and includes:
- Drivetrain: C-4 automatic rebuilds for 1965 to 1970 cars, 5-speed rebuilds for 1987 to 1995 cars, 5-speed manual conversions and full engine rebuilds.
- Comfort and safety upgrades: under-dash and in-dash air conditioning, power front disc brakes, Borgeson power steering, three-point seat belts and LED headlights.
- Cooling and fuel: aluminum radiator packages and Edelbrock intake and carburetor upgrades.
- Interior and electrical: convertible tops for 1965 to 1970 and 1983 to 2004 Mustangs, wiring harnesses, gauges and Bluetooth radios.
The company also offers general maintenance and full restorations on classic Mustangs and other American classics. It publishes a labor rate of $140 an hour and asks owners to call for quotes on larger jobs.
