Ideal Classic Cars
Venice, Florida dealership and free public car museum selling classic cars, trucks and motorcycles, with consignment, trades and financing.
About Ideal Classic Cars
Ideal Classic Cars is a classic car dealership and free public car museum on South Tamiami Trail in Venice, Florida, between Sarasota and Port Charlotte. The business operates as Ideal Classic Cars LLC, which state records date to March 2010, and it sells cars, trucks and motorcycles from a large indoor showroom where every vehicle on display is for sale. The company describes itself as both a dealership and a museum, and in its own listings it says it has bought and sold classic collector cars "all over the world" for more than 30 years.
A dealership that doubles as a museum
The building is the first thing most visitors notice. Published descriptions put the facility at more than 27,000 square feet on about three acres, and the company's FAQ confirms that the museum side is free to walk through, with photos allowed for personal use. In a 2025 Bay News 9 segment, marketing manager Ian Dulac said there are about 110 cars inside on a typical day.
The museum label should not hide what the place is: a working dealership. Ideal Classic Cars holds its own stock, buys certain vehicles outright, accepts certain trades and also takes in certain cars on consignment. The business is run by Michael Lombardo, whose name appears on the company's YouTube channel, and it has its own service department with a dedicated line and hours on its website.
What Ideal Classic Cars sells
The inventory covers the 1920s through the 1970s, with hot rods, street rods, European models, muscle cars and original survivors. Dulac told Bay News 9 that the 1950s through the 1970s are "pretty much our sweet spot," while older cars from the 1920s and 1940s still turn up. One example from that report was a fully restored 1963 Corvette split window coupe with an asking price of $249,000.
A look at the dealer's listings on ClassicCars.com in October 2026 showed about 70 vehicles, with a strong American muscle and pony car slant: several Chevelles, Camaros and Corvettes, a Pontiac GTO and Firebird, a Mustang, a Thunderbird, a Dodge Coronet and a Willys Jeep wagon. Some cars are listed with a price and others with "Contact Seller." According to the company's earlier website, it has sold more than 3,700 classics in total. Buying from Ideal Classic Cars
The company's FAQ is unusually direct about how it sells, and buyers should read it before committing. The main points:
- Remote viewing: high resolution photos plus walk-around and start-up videos for all vehicles at no extra cost, with more on request.
- Inspections: the company recommends a professional inspector who will examine the car and send a report, paid for by the buyer.
- Test drives: allowed on the lot "depending on the circumstances of the sale," and only for serious buyers.
- Financing: offered through outside classic car lenders, with approved credit.
- Trades: certain trades are accepted.
- Shipping: the company says it ships vehicles worldwide.
- Car finding: if a model is not in stock, a sales specialist will try to locate one.
The fine print matters here. The FAQ states that all vehicles are sold as is, with no warranty, and that the company does not guarantee originality of the engine or other parts, since it did not restore or build most of the cars. It also notes that most vehicles are mileage exempt, so the true mileage is often unknown. That makes an independent inspection and a careful look at paperwork and VIN numbers especially important.
Selling or consigning a car
Owners have three routes with Ideal Classic Cars: an outright sale, a trade toward another car, or consignment. The company says it buys "certain vehicles" and accepts "certain consignment vehicles," so not every car will qualify. Its consignment page describes a program in which its team handles the marketing and the paperwork. We did not find published consignment fees or contract terms, so ask for them in writing and compare them with other options. If you are new to the process, our guide to how classic car consignment works explains the usual fees, timelines and contract points.
Track record and reviews
Ideal Classic Cars has traded from the same Venice address for years, and it has drawn media attention as a local attraction: a Motorious dealer feature in 2022, a Bay News 9 "Florida on a Tankful" visit in 2025, and mentions in local tourism guides. It remains active on several large marketplaces, including ClassicCars.com, Autotrader Classics and Cars.com. We were not able to open its Better Business Bureau profile or its pages on the major review sites when we checked, so we do not quote ratings here. Read recent reviews yourself before you buy, and treat the as is policy as the starting point for your own checks.
