Legendary Motorcar Company

Legendary Motorcar Company is a collector car dealer and restoration shop in Halton Hills, Ontario, northwest of Toronto. The company says it has been buying, selling and restoring classic, muscle, vintage and exotic cars since 1985, which would put it past its 40th year in business.

History and facility

According to the company's own history page, it began as a sales and restoration operation, expanded to a 12,000 square foot building by 1990 and began adding European marques such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes and Porsche to its American inventory. In 2002 it moved into a new 55,000 square foot building in Halton Hills, and the company now describes a 75,000 square foot purpose-built facility. Its site lists a 100-car showroom, a mechanical department, a restoration and body shop, metal shaping and fabrication, detailing bays and climate-controlled storage. These figures are the company's own and were not independently checked.

What the business does

The company describes its work as sales, restoration, collection management, parts manufacturing and vehicle storage. It lists awards for its restorations at events including the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the Amelia, NCRS meets, SAAC Shelby conventions and the Cavallino Classic. As with any shop's award list, buyers who care about a specific restoration should ask for the documentation behind it.

What it sells

Inventory leans toward American muscle cars and classics, with Ford and Shelby models prominent on the site, alongside vintage cars and European exotics. The site shows roughly 20 or more cars at a time, plus a Previously Sold archive that gives a sense of the kinds of cars it handles. Because stock turns over, the cars on offer change often.

Buying from Legendary Motorcar

Most buyers start from the online listings and then arrange a visit, since weekday viewing is by appointment. For shoppers new to dealer purchases, it helps to read up on how dealer purchases work before a first visit: ask for the title status and service history, look closely at the underside and panel gaps, and consider an independent inspection on higher priced cars. The company's site does not spell out financing or shipping terms in the pages reviewed, so ask about both directly.

Selling or consigning a car

The company runs a "Sell Us Your Car" program and lists consignment among its services. Terms, fees and the kinds of cars it accepts are not published in the pages reviewed, so owners should call to discuss them. Owners weighing the options can compare outright sale and consignment in consigning a classic.

Reputation

The company's history page describes decades of continuous operation in the Halton Hills area. The Better Business Bureau lists Legendary Motorcar Company Ltd as not accredited and not rated, saying it lacks enough information to issue a rating. No complaint figures or customer review counts were verified for this profile, so the best evidence of quality is the car in front of you and the paperwork behind it.
